Product overview
Granular carbon exists because powder cannot be used in a flowing system. Packed into a column and fed a liquid stream, powdered carbon compacts and blinds the bed almost immediately. Granules maintain voidage and permissible pressure drop while still presenting adequate surface area.
Made from the same high-quality steam-activated coconut shell as our powdered grade, so the adsorptive chemistry is identical — only the physical form differs. Coconut shell's hardness matters especially here: it resists attrition, so the bed does not degrade into fines and channel over its service life.
Available in 8×30, 12×40 and 20×50 mesh. Finer grades give faster kinetics and higher pressure drop; coarser grades the reverse. Tell us your flow rate and vessel geometry and we will recommend the mesh.

Questions about Granular Activated Carbon (Coconut Shell)
Should I use granular or powdered activated carbon?
Use granular in any flowing system — packed columns, filter cartridges, water treatment — where powder would compact and blind the bed. Use powder for batch treatment, where the carbon is stirred into a liquid, held, then filtered out, and for anything ingested or applied to skin.
Which mesh size should I specify?
It is a trade-off between kinetics and pressure drop. 12×40 is the most common choice for water filtration. 8×30 gives lower pressure drop for high flow rates, while 20×50 gives faster adsorption at the cost of higher pressure drop. Send your flow rate and vessel dimensions and we will recommend one.
Can we make this to your specification?
Yes. Mesh size, assay strength, blend ratio, packaging format and label are all specifiable.
